Swim of the Week is brought to you by arena, a SwimSwam partner.
Disclaimer: Swim of the Week is not meant to be a conclusive selection of the best overall swim of the week, but rather one Featured Swim to be explored in deeper detail. The Swim of the Week is an opportunity to take a closer look at the context of one of the many fast swims this week, perhaps a swim that slipped through the cracks as others grabbed the headlines, or a race we didn’t get to examine as closely in the flood of weekly meets.
Arizona State hosted SMU in a rare short course meters college dual meet on Thursday, and Sun Devil freshman Oliver Munn was among the standouts.
Munn, a 19-year-old Swede, roared to a dominant victory in the men’s 100 breaststroke, putting up a time of 57.54 to narrowly miss the national record.
The Swedish Record stands at 57.51, set by Erik Persson in 2021.
Despite falling just shy of the national mark, Munn did obliterate his own personal best time of 58.61, set at the 2025 European Short Course Championships, where he tied for 37th.
Split Comparison
| Munn, Old PB | Munn, New PB | Persson, Swedish Record |
| 27.37 | 26.94 | 27.26 |
| 58.61 (31.24) | 57.54 (30.60) | 57.51 (30.25) |
Munn’s time was just shy of the ‘A’ qualifying time for the Short Course World Championships (57.38), but did put him comfortably under the ‘B’ cut (59.38), meaning there’s a chance this performance would earn him a spot on the Swedish roster.
He also split 26.08 on the breast leg of ASU’s 200 medley relay at the dual meet. His flat start best time in the 50 breast stands at 26.94, which he matched opening up the 100 breast against SMU.
Prior to this, Munn had shown impressive form early in his freshman year with the Sun Devils, clocking 51.86 in the 100-yard breast at a dual meet against UNLV that ranks him #2 in the nation this season (setting an unofficial Swedish Record), while he clocked 1:53.59 in the 200 breast at the SMU Classic, good for 12th in the country.
