Daniil Medvedev secured his 25th career ATP Tour title with victory against Nikoloz Basilashvili on Sunday afternoon.

Medvedev, the former world number one, fought from a set down before triumphing 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 in the Almaty Open final.

“It was not easy but I had my chances in the first set, got a bit unlucky on the 30-40 and then on the tie-break,” said Medvedev afterwards.

“So, I knew that I would probably have my chances to turn this match around and that’s what I managed to do and I managed to win of course.”

Medvedev has enjoyed an excellent year on the circuit, bouncing back emphatically from an extremely disappointing 2025 campaign.

After securing his fourth title of 2026, Medvedev’s next goal should be clear.

Daniil Medvedev should now aim to equal Carlos Alcaraz’s titles total before the end of 2026

Daniil Medvedev is the fourth-most successful active player on the ATP Tour when it comes to total titles won.

The Almaty Open title marked Medvedev’s 25th career title – eight years on from his first at the 2018 Sydney Open.

Medvedev should now look to equal Carlos Alcaraz’s total before the ATP season concludes.

With 27 titles to his name, Alcaraz is the third-most successful active player on the Tour, behind Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic.

ATP Tour titles among active players

Of course, accomplishing this feat is easier said than done; Alcaraz is arguably the best player on the planet and will be the favourite to win the Vienna Open and ATP Finals later this year.

However, it would be a mistake to count out Daniil Medvedev, especially when reflecting on his recent form and how he performed in his last match against Alcaraz.

Daniil Medvedev’s previous match vs Carlos Alcaraz

Back in March, Daniil Medvedev upset the odds in Indian Wells, California.

Medvedev converted both of his two break-point opportunities en route to a 6-3, 7-6 victory against Carlos Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semi-finals.

It was Alcaraz’s first defeat of 2026.

How would you feel if Novak Djokovic got a wildcard to the ATP Finals?

Is there any changes you’d make to the current qualification system?

“Playing someone like Carlos, you play many times, you lose many times,” Medvedev, who has a 3-6 record against the Spaniard, said afterwards. “He’s an amazing player with amazing shots, defence, attack, return, everything. So, you need to be at your best.”

Jannik Sinner defeated Medvedev in the final, 7-6, 7-6.
