Adam Marcel Hofstede from Hong Kong has committed to attend Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University beginning in the second semester of the 2026-27 school year. He confirmed to SwimSwam:

Hofstede graduated from Malvern College Hong Kong and then spent a year in the Netherlands to train with coach Harm Rozenga at Blue Marlins in Rotterdam. While there, he was a four-time finalist at the Dutch National Championships. Hofstede credits this experience with helping him achieve “big PBs.”
A sprint free, fly, and back specialist, he recently represented Hong Kong at the Asian Games in Japan. There, he competed in the 50 free and 50 fly and qualified 6th for the 50 free final with a PB of 22.27 in prelims.
Last summer, he swam at all three legs of the Mare Nostrum circuit. In Monaco, he took on the 50 free (23.28), 100 free (51.81), and 50 back (26.76). He competed in the 50 free (23.21), 100 free (51.97), and 50 fly (24.47) in Canet-en-Roussillon, and again in Barcelona (23.14, 52.17, 24.62).
Hofstede wrapped the summer at Dutch National Championships and European Trials, finaling in the 50 free (5th), 100 free (17th), and 50 fly (6th), and improving his times in the 50 free (22.36), 100 free (51.22), and 50 fly (24.02).
Hofstede will join a class that welcomed new Hokies Matthew Wolfle, Alex Grocholski, Luke Rawlings, Aidan Paro, Alex Parent, Aly Hassan, Doruk Yogurtcuoglu, and Olivier Urbaniak this fall.
