With the John Cena Classic officially set to get underway next month, we have learned a lot more information about it over the past few days.

Following Cena’s return to WWE television on Raw, he announced that the event would take place on December 14 at Disney World, as well as announcing the first confirmed name for the Classic, that being Cody Rhodes.

With Cody now confirmed for the Classic, here are some potential opponents for the American Nightmare in the John Cena Classic.

Zilla Fatu

On last night’s episode of NXT, the second confirmed entry into the John Cena Classic was revealed as Zilla Fatu.

Since he made his debut in August, Zilla has often been speculated for a very quick move to the main roster, given his obvious connections with the Bloodline, so he will likely be spotlighted in a major way during the Classic.

One man who has the obvious history with the Bloodline himself is Cody Rhodes, so Zilla locking up with a top star that his family has history with would be a nice hook for the show.

Charlie Dempsey

Birthright have continued to be a big presence on NXT television over the past few months after the group of second generation stars banded together to take what they felt like they were owed.

With Cody himself being a second generation star, he’d be the perfect person for the group to attempt to recruit ahead of the John Cena Classic, setting up an obvious story for a potential match.

At Halloween Havoc it was Charlie Dempsey that stepped into the ring to face off against Zilla Fatu to end his rivalry with the group, so it would also likely be him getting the nod for this match too.

Mason Rook

When John Cena first announced the John Cena Classic back at Backlash, the first NXT name that many thought of was Mason Rook, who had only recently debuted at the time of the announcement.

With Cena himself instantly putting his stamp on Rook, he would likely have been a huge part of the John Cena Classic had he not been out of action.

However, Rook recently teased a potential return on social media, so it seems as though he’s targeting a return for the Classic.
