Samoa Joe has his eyes on the AEW World Championship, but Jungle Jack Perry is standing in his way after their last encounter.
AEW WrestleDream saw Samoa Joe come up short in the Clockwork Carnage match, with Will Ospreay retaining the World Championship by pinning Adam Copeland for the win.
For Joe, it’s something that’s clearly gnawing at him, with the star seeking to reclaim the World Championship, but that might have to wait as Jack Perry wants another go, having had another failure in his own quest for the top title:
Samoa Joe wants to be three-time AEW World Champion
In a backstage segment on AEW Dynamite, Samoa Joe reflected on Clockwork Carnage, stating:
“By any other circumstance, I scored the first pinfall and I would be champion.
“By any other circumstance, I choked out Will Ospreay and I would be champion.
“And, if anything, it made me realize that that title belongs to me and nobody will stand in my way.”

With Copeland also seeking a World Championship opportunity and Ospreay being open to that, and Kyle Fletcher also having his eyes on the top title, the challengers are lining up, and Samoa Joe in the mix offers even more tantalizing prospects.
And, then there’s Jungle Jack Perry
After re-signing with AEW earlier this year, Jack Perry made his goal clear, and the World Championship was very much the centerpiece of that ambition.
As such, Perry declared he wanted to face former AEW World Champions as he called out Samoa Joe back in September. Perry would admit that he was “two down” and was “getting his ass kicked all over the place”, but there was apparently a method to what he was doing, with the star learning from each encounter.
The losing streak would continue with Samoa Joe at Grand Slam France, with the star now seeking a rematch because the leader of The Opps didn’t show him respect after the loss.
Samoa Joe would say he would “take care of business very soon” before walking off with Katsuyori Shibata, leaving HOOK and Action Andretti with Perry until the pair also walked off.
The World Championship journey isn’t working
For Samoa Joe, losing the Clockwork Carnage match has lit a fire under him that very much could see him become a three-time AEW World Champion. He has the reputation of being a dominant competitor, with or without the backing of The Opps, and it feels like it is just a matter of time before he reclaims the title.
When it comes to Jack Perry, the star has held titles before, being a former World Tag Team Champion, TNT Champion, National Champion and FTW Champion. The AEW World Championship would seem like a natural destination for the star, yet three defeats to three former title holders doesn’t bode well when it comes to convincing records, particularly with the likes of Adam Page, Kenny Omega, MJF and Will Ospreay ahead, among others.
An easy solution to make Perry feel like a contender would be for the former Jungle Boy to defeat Samoa Joe, although that’s likely to enrage everyone in The Opps, which could lead to a more substantial feud that could yield more convincing results.
Perhaps, one day, Jack Perry will be AEW World Champion, but it’s difficult to see that on the losing streak against three of the eleven stars to have held the title so far (one of whom is no longer with the company).
