A WWE star has recently revealed they were unaware that they were on a two-year losing streak, citing their intention in every match.
Much can be made of win-loss records, with some convinced that stars are being “buried” through defeats, whether they’re signed to WWE, AEW or any number of prominent professional wrestling companies.
While losses can matter, for The Miz and Cody Rhodes, that’s seemingly not the entire story:
The Miz breaks the streak
The October 28 episode of WWE Main Event saw The Miz and Kit Wilson team up against Fraxiom, scoring the win on the Rumble show.
For The Miz, it was his first victory since he teamed with Carmelo Hayes to defeat Motor City Machine Guns on the August 22 episode of WWE SmackDown last year.
Speaking to Page Six Radio, The Miz addressed the win, noting that he wasn’t aware that he was on a mammoth losing streak and that his goal is to “make the best match possible”, saying:
“I’ve been on a losing streak for the past two years. I did not know this, by the way, everyone else was telling me on the internet.
“I was not aware that it had been a two-year streak… I had no idea, cos I just try to make the best match possible for the audience.
“I’m always out there to make a moment, to make people talk, to make things go viral, whatever it may be, whatever my assignment for that night.
“So, I go out there and do my best. I’m not really worried about the wins and losses, or keeping track of it, and everyone basically just said, like, “hey, Miz just won a match.”

The Miz wasn’t the one to score the pin, with Kit Wilson being the man to keep Axiom down.
Pitching a losing streak
There’s a difference between being on a losing streak and actually pitching one, with Cody Rhodes revealing what an “old-timer” told him about being the one to put forward such an idea.
Speaking to AJ Styles on What Do You Wanna Talk About?, Rhodes would list the reasons that he was told as to why the pitch would be bad, saying:
“I remember somebody was pitching a losing streak, and I’ll never forget it, there was an OG old-timer in the room with us, I won’t say who.
“When that person left and the person he was talking to left, he hit me with it:
“It never goes where you think. You’re never going to have this big crash-out moment. You’re not going to resolve it. People are going to forget you’re on a losing streak.”

More recently, speaking on the Double Coverage Podcast, Cody Rhodes addressed the
“If you ever hear a story of a wrestler pitching to lose a title, you should know right outta the gate they’re lying. No wrestler has ever said “you know what…”
“There’s a difference between an old man figuring out who his last opponent is, but no wrestler has ever said “yeah, I wanna… I need to lose the title.” My god, that’s the meal ticket. You want someone to take it from you, you don’t pitch it.”

The rumor came from posts on social media, with Rhodes taking a shot at X (formerly Twitter) in particular saying “these conversations are just here” as he reflected on reported plans to seemingly drop the Undisputed WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre.
Cody Rhodes heads to WWE Crown Jewel to face Randy Orton in a Last Man Standing match on November 7.
The burial is not always what it seems
With a WWE return in August, Big Cass kicked off his run with a victory over Je’Von Evans, although would fail to qualify for the men’s Money in the Bank ladder match in the Triple Threat qualifier that also would be won by Evans.
September would close with Dragon Lee beating Big Cass, leading to online speculation that the singles run was a failure and that WWE had lost faith in the star.
The speculation perhaps wasn’t helped by Big Cass losing to Rey Mysterio at the start of October, although things have seemingly improved with the imposing star scoring a win alongside Ethan Page at the end of the month on WWE Raw, beating Chad Gable & Dragon Lee.
Whether this is enough to win round critics of the apparent burial remains to be seen, although Cass & Page as a unit may be a force to be reckoned with.
