2026 World Aquatics World Cup #1 – Baku

After ripping a lifetime best of 44.84 in the 100m freestyle last night to tie Aussie Kyle Chalmers‘s world record, 22-year-old Egor Kornev captured another gold in record-setting fashion.

While contesting the men’s 50m butterfly on the final night of action at the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup stop in Baku, Kornev ripped a lifetime best of 21.64 to top the 50m fly podium.

Entering this competition, Kornev’s lifetime best and Russian national record stood at the 21.73 produced last year, so he managed to shave .09 off that outing for the gold here.

Singaporean national record holder Teong Tze Wei held on strong to capture the silver in 22.01, within striking distance of the 21.93 NR he also established last year.

China’s Chen Juner followed up his national record-setting performance in last night’s 200m fly with a bronze in this sprint, logging 22.24.

Cameron McEvoy, the 50m freestyle winner at this competition, settled for 7th place in a mark of 22.46.

Kornev’s result tonight renders the Russian the 3rd-best performer of all time.
