Satellite images show a luxury yacht owned by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, featuring a four-lane 50-meter pool and several waterslides at the far end. Located at the far end of the vessel.
According to the BBC, the 80-meter vessel has been spotted multiple times via satellite off North Korea’s Wonsan coast between July and October. After sitting idle for several months at a maintenance facility, the boat was moved in early July to the Kalma Peninsula coast.
The BBC report also says this boat is believed to be used by Kim and his family. Kim spent part of his childhood in Wonsan with his mother. The villas that are in the Wonsan area were used as a retreat area by the elite in North Korea.
Ri Jong Ho, a former official in the Workers’ Party’s Office 39, told the BBC that in the winter months, Kim would keep the vessel at the shipyard. He would then bring it out and move it to Kalma, to his villa, where he would use the boat for “swimming and recreation”.
The BBC couldn’t nail down an exact estimate for the cost of this vessel or other boats from the images, though comparable luxury yachts can range from tens of millions to over $100 million. Kim owns a 29-meter yacht estimated at $7 million.
