Tennessee’s Camille Spink Joins Exclusive Club in 100 Freestyle

As the University of Tennessee stormed to a dominant victory during Match Six of the College Swimming League on Friday night, Volunteer sprinter Camille Spink joined an exclusive club in the 100-yard freestyle. Behind a time of 45.91, Spink became the eighth woman to break the 46-second barrier in the event. Her victory in the 100 freestyle was complemented by a win in the 50 free, where Spink clocked 21.04.

Spink entered the CSL’s final regular-season match with a top time of 46.01, and she was able to cut a tenth from that performance while Tennessee cruised to a team triumph over Georgia, Alabama and Auburn. Last year, Spink was the fifth-place finisher in the 100 freestyle at the NCAA Championships, going 46.28 in the final. She went 46.23 in the prelims and her prior personal best was recorded at the Southeastern Conference Championships.

Over the summer, Spink put together the top long-course efforts of her career. While racing at the United States National Championships, she went 24.39 in the 50 freestyle and 53.19 in the 100 freestyle.

With Spink leading the way, Tennessee has qualified for the inaugural CSL championship match, along with Virginia and North Carolina State. The fourth squad for the championship will be determined by the wildcard clash between Indiana, Cal, Stanford and Louisville.
