QUOTE FROM UIC HEAD COACH ASHLEY DELL
“I couldn’t be prouder of this team and the way they competed today! We got to see some pretty fast swims for this time of year, which is a testament to the hard work, consistency, and commitment they’ve shown every day in practice. Seeing around 90% season-best times is an incredible reflection of the progress we’re making, and I’m excited to see what this group can continue to accomplish as the season moves forward!”
QUOTE FROM UIC ASSOCIATE HEAD COACH / DIVING COACH SUSAN BROMBERG
“Overall, the divers did well. There were a few new dives that were done for the first time in the meet, and the standout performance was from Jake Gilbride, who finished 2nd on both boards.”

CHICAGO – The Milwaukee women’s swim & dive program earned its first victory of the season Saturday afternoon, defeating IU Indy 128-107 at the UIC Triangular.
The Panthers improved to 9-2 against the Jaguars all-time, winning five of the last six battles. Milwaukee fell to the host, UIC, 113.5-128.5 to wrap up their meet at the Flames Natatorium.
“This was the meet we had targeted once the schedule was released,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “Two fast teams and a good pool to race them in. We just wrapped up our ninth week of practice and haven’t had the chance to race this fall with any kind of rest. The team has been very patient up to this point waiting to see some results to the work they’ve been putting in.
Kristina Wittmann kicked things off with a first-place finish in the three-meter dive, notching a score of 230.03. The sophomore followed it up with the top performance in the one-meter dive as well, tallying 250.65.
The 400 medley relay combination of Christiana Brooks, Heidi Swerkun, Maddi Hayashi and Tatum Scully earned gold with a time of 3:46.23.
Swerkun followed it up with a first-place mark in the 200 breaststroke, covering the distance in 2:20.26. Kambree Draper followed as the runner-up with a time of 2:21.55.
Hayashi garnered a runner-up performance in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:04.21. Brooks also tallied silver in the 100 freestyle, turning in a time of 50.73.
The Panthers will be back in action next week, returning to Illinois to take on Wheaton College Friday, Nov. 6. The competition is set to get underway at 5:00 p.m. CT.
“Not having a lot of meets and data points, I was getting a little concerned about where we were at this point when it comes to racing, but after leaving UIC today we now know that we are right on track, and maybe a little ahead,” Clements said.
CHICAGO – The Milwaukee men’s swim and dive program broke a school record and two separate pool records at the UIC Triangular Saturday morning, paced by the likes of Gunnar Seversen once again.
The Woodbury, Minn. native continued to thrive early on in the season, shattering a school record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:07.76 to take first place. Seversen surpassed Nic Halverson’s time of 9:17.40 from 2015 to etch his name in the record book. The junior now owns five individual school records.
Seversen followed it up with a time of 4:26.72 in the 500 freestyle, good for a pool record at the Flames Natatorium. He went on to win the event by nearly eight seconds.
Sam Lorenz got off to a quality start in Chicago, shattering a pool record in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:42.53. The Mequon, Wis. native earned gold by a large margin, securing first by over seven seconds.
To round out the top performers, Charlie House tallied a pair of second-place finishes in the 100 and 200 freestyle. The senior improved on his 100 freestyle mark from a couple of weeks ago at the Wisconsin Showcase, dropping his time to 44.55 seconds.
“Without sacrificing the training, we were able to line up this week to have a good day, and a good day we had,” head coach Kyle Clements said. “The vast majority of all swims were season best times, with a good number of personal bests mixed in as well. We also were able to break two pool records, and a school record in the process.”
As a team, Milwaukee earned a 120-120 tie against UIC, while falling to IU Indy, 87-153.
The 200 freestyle relay was the final event to notch a first-place finish, as the unit of House, Aleks Piljevic, Evan Cornoiu and Seversen emerged victorious with a time of 1:21.78.
The Panthers will be back in action next week, returning to Illinois to take on Wheaton College Friday, Nov. 6. The competition is set to get underway at 5:00 p.m. CT.
