The tennis season is drawing to a close, with just one Masters 1000 event left before the end-of-year ATP and WTA Finals.

Then, once those prestigious tournaments are over, it’s time for some well-earned rest.

However, there is actually one more competition that the men still have to play in, although the entry list is short.

Just eight teams have secured their spot in the Davis Cup Finals, and it promises to be perhaps the most competitive in years.

There are at least four teams that should fancy their chances of bringing home the most elite team silverware in tennis, with Carlos Alcaraz’s Spain chief among them.

Why Spain’s chances of winning the Davis Cup have just increased massively

This remains one of the very few elite titles that the 23-year-old lacks.

What he has already accomplished at such a young age is astounding, and he only looks set to continue at that rate.

Give us one bold prediction for the final months of the 2026 tennis season!

However, the longer that he goes without claiming trophies like the Shanghai Masters, the ATP Finals and the Davis Cup, the tougher it may become.

Fortunately, his chances of claiming the latter have just taken a huge surge following the announcement that Alejandro Davidovich Fokina would be taking up the fifth and final spot on Spain’s team, which now consists of him, Alcaraz, Rafael Jodar, Pedro Martínez, and Marcel Granollers.

Their team consists of three top-15 singles players, and one of the best doubles partnerships in the game.

Davidovich Fokina’s victory at the Shanghai Masters certainly helped his case, as he routinely made his plea to David Ferrer, his Davis Cup captain, throughout his run.

Who else is in the Davis Cup Finals this year?

With all the qualifiers and the knockout rounds played, we are down to the final eight. They will compete on the indoor courts of Bologna, Italy, at the back end of November.

Spain will face Austria in their quarter-finals, and will play the winner of Great Britain’s tie with Germany.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the draw, the two-time defending champions Italy, who will be without the injured Jannik Sinner, face the Republic of Korea. They will play whoever wins out of Czechia and Canada.

Many are predicting Spain and Italy to meet in the final.
