In two weeks, AEW is set to host it’s annual Blood & Guts event, with the titular match set to headline the show.

On last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite, the line up for the men’s Blood & Guts match was confirmed, with Will Ospreay, Adam Copeland, Darby Allin, Steven Borden and the Young Bucks facing off against the Don Callis Family, represented by Kazuchika Okada, Kyle Fletcher, Kevin Knight, Wardlow, Mark Davis and Jake Doyle.

With Blood & Guts coming so soon after WrestleDream, AEW was left with very little time to build to the match.

The understandable change to AEW’s plans

The Death Riders huddled around PAC's empty chair to close A Tribute To PAC Dynamite

While the match with the Don Callis Family largely came out of nowhere for this year’s Blood & Guts, it is entirely understandable that AEW had to shift plans.

Coming out of All Out, it seemed as though the likely destination for Blood & Guts was the big blow off between the Death Riders and Will Ospreay’s United Empire.

AEW had seemingly been building towards PAC breaking away from the Death Riders, which likely would have come to a head in Blood and Guts.

However, following the tragic passing of PAC on September 27, the Death Riders can no longer break up, and are bound together for life as babyfaces in the company.

As such, AEW pivoted away from it in favour of the Don Callis Family match.

The field for Women’s Blood & Guts

Last year, AEW held it’s first Women’s Blood & Guts match after years of fans asking for the women to feature.

With only one episode of AEW Dynamite left, AEW is now running out of time to build to a women’s Blood & Guts match this year, though the field could simply be announced like it was last year.

On last night’s episode of Dynamite, Divine Dominion and the Triangle of Madness jumped both Wrathlander and the Brawling Birds backstage, which could be used as a way to set up Blood & Guts.

The other spots in the match would probably go to Mercedes Mone on the heel side, with Marina Shafir and Willow Nightingale joining the babyface side.

Alternatively, the other members of the babyface team could be Maya World and Queen Aminata, with Persephone joining the heels.

There are a number of options for a potential Women’s Blood & Guts match, though much like most of the women’s booking across North America right now, it would feel entirely like an afterthought.
