11-year-old Gabriel Brown continues to build his impressive age-group resume; having recently aged up just a few months ago, he has wasted no time in making an impact on the 11-12 rankings.
Brown raced three events, swimming lifetime bests in two. In the 200 back, Brown clocked a 2:05.75, another lifetime best swim, moving him up to 5th in the country this season in the 11-12 age group and making him the fastest 11-year-old this season by more than a second and a half. That time also broke Kyle Ponsler‘s FAST team record of 2:08.58, which has stood for nearly 10 years.
He also took on the 400 IM for the first time in competition and delivered a very strong time, touching in 4:29.37, the 5th-fastest time in the age group this season and the fastest 11-year-old time in the event. Similar to the 200 back, Brown took down a near decade-old Ponsler team record of 4:36.57.
In the 50 free, Brown clocked 25.00, which not only marked a new personal best for him, but also shot him up to the 7th-fastest 11-year-old this season in the event across the country; it also ties him as the 66th-fastest performer in the age group this season.
FAST also saw solid performances from several other age group swimmers. 10-year-old Emma Likens picked up three wins on the day, first touching in 29.45 in the 50 free, later notching the 100 back in 1:20.22, and closing out her showing with a 6:21.19 in the 500 free.
12-year-old Skyler Elsten also delivered some solid performances at the intrasquad meet; she touched in 28.81 to win the 50 free, and added a win in the 50 breast in 40.93. In addition to those wins, she finished 3rd in the 100 breast, swimming a big lifetime best in 1:28.36.
