Cal sophomore Ryan Erisman took on a tough double in Westmont and came out the other side fairly unscathed. He swam the 400 IM first on night 3, finishing 2nd behind Josh Bey to add another individual event to his lineup in Beijing. Then, about 25 minutes later, he dove into the pool as 1 of only 5 competitors in the 1500. Erisman swam a controlled race and turned on the jets with about 500 to go, ultimately winning the race by over 5 seconds.

Looking ahead, it seems Erisman may have to make a decision about his events in Beijing, as the men’s 400 IM final comes directly before the men’s 800 free final on night 5. If Erisman is ranked outside of the top 8 in the 800 free, he would swim in the morning, as it is timed finals and only the top 8 swim at night.
