Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Gavin Halusic from Marietta, Georgia, has flipped his verbal commitment from Arizona State to Penn State. He will begin at Penn State in fall 2027.

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim at Penn State University! First and foremost, I want to thank God for everything he’s done for me. I would like to thank my parents for the love and support they have provided me over the years. A big thanks to Coach Caleb and all of my coaches who have helped me along the way, to my friends and family for their support over the years. Lastly, a huge thank you to Coach Hollie and Coach Mike for giving me this wonderful opportunity. WE ARE!!”

Halusic finished his long course season at Summer Juniors where he saw his highest finish come in the 100 fly as he was 42nd in a season best 55.74.

At the end of January, he swam to a Georgia High School 5A state title as he won the 50 free in a lifetime best 20.19. He also helped Lassiter High School to wins in both the 200 and 400 free relays. He was 2nd in the 100 fly in a lifetime best 47.52, breaking the 48 second mark for the first time. He lowered his lifetime best in March to a 47.50. His lifetime best was a 48.09 when he had committed to Arizona State.

Halusic’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 100 fly: 47.50
  • 200 fly: 1:47.16
  • 50 free: 20.19
  • 100 free: 44.74

The Penn State men finished 9th out of 9 teams at the 2026 Big Ten Championships and sent four swimmers to the 2026 NCAA Championships. Matthew Bittner led the team in the 100 butterfly last season with a 45.19 that he swam for 9th in prelims at Big Tens before swimming a 45.20 to win the ‘B’ final.

Based on his best times, Halusic would have been 3rd on the team in the 100 fly last season and 5th in the 50 free. It took a 46.48 to final in the 100 fly at Big Tens. His best time in the 200 fly would have made the ‘C’ final, an event where Jack Clancy was the team’s only finalist in as he swam a 1:49.59 for 24th in the final.

Halusic will arrive next fall as a member of the class of 2031 along with Avery Heron, Patrick O’Connor, Brady Manser, and Reid O’Connell.
