At least three drivers will take grid penalties at Formula 1’s United States Grand Prix for exceeding their power unit component allowance.
Half the grid had already exceeded at least one engine component allowance this season, but that’s now risen to 12 of the 22 drivers at Austin.
Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto has taken a fourth engine store and a fourth control electronics unit of the year, exceeding the three-component limit for both and triggering a 20-place grid penalty.
Bortoleto also has a new internal combustion engine, turbocharger, exhaust and power unit ancillary component, but all of those are within his allowance.
Arvid Lindblad has a five-place grid penalty for taking his sixth internal combustion unit of the year, when four are allowed. You get a 10-place grid penalty for the first component over the limit, but five places thereafter.
Franco Colapinto has a fourth control electronics unit of the year, meaning he has a 10-place grid penalty at the US GP.
US GP grid penalties
Gabriel Bortoleto: 20 places
Franco Colapinto: 10 places
Arvid Lindblad: 5 places
