Following last night’s NXT Halloween Havoc event, which saw Grayson Waller defeat Tony D’Angelo in the main event to keep hold of his NXT Championship, a major match was announced for next week’s show.
Danhausen would come to the ring and deliver a message to Waller from CM Punk, which him challenging Waller to an NXT Championship match on next week’s episode of NXT.
NXT next week is set to take place on Wednesday instead of Tuesday due to election coverage, meaning WWE has stacked the show to go head to head with AEW Blood & Guts.
With Punk announced for a title match, there are a number of ways the match could go down.
CM Punk to become NXT Champion?
Since the match was announced, there has been a lot of speculation about how the match could go down, with it likely leading to a non-finish.
Punk has appeared on numerous NXT live events in the past, with him set to appear on two more later this month, so he is set to make a number of appearances for the brand going forward.
As such, it is not entirely out of the question that Punk could defeat Waller and win the NXT Championship on Wednesday, holding onto the title for a short period of time before dropping the title during his upcoming live event appearance.
WWE just did a live event title change with Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan in Chile, and NXT in the past has had the NXT Championship change hands on a live event, when Samoa Joe defeated Finn Balor to win the title.
The first of more appearances for CM Punk in NXT?
There has been recent reports in regards to the future of NXT following reports of Shawn Michaels being slated to take over from Bruce Prichard on the main roster after WrestleMania 43.
It was reported that AJ Styles is the name expected to do more with NXT following Shawn’s move to the main roster, though other names potentially set to do more for the brand are CM Punk and Bayley.
If Punk does take up more responsibility in NXT in the coming months, then this could be the start of several appearances for Punk on NXT television heading towards the end of the year.
